Muspratt is widely known for innovative programs.  At the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra, he instituted a Solo Competition for Children that has a child perform at every orchestra concert. In 2007, he initiated the South Shore Summer Music Festival for the Orchestra.  At the New Philharmonic, he instituted an Interactive Intermission Project involving both the musicians and patrons and a Side-by-Side program for local high school students.  At the College of DuPage, he began an Orchestral Fellowship program for students.  At Valparaiso University, he implemented an Orchestral Fellowship Programthat includes collaborations with Lyric Opera Center for American Artists that has resulted in the presentation of several operas.

 

Other examples of innovative programs include Just Ask KirkTM   cards for audience questions that he answers during the program; Interactive Intermissionsat the New Philharmonic and DuPage Opera Theatre performances during which the artists and casts greet audience members; and Cookies with Kirkfor the audience, conductor and performers to meet and converse at the conclusion of each performance.

 

Contemporary music is an enduring interest.  At the New Philharmonic, he presented the world premiers of the Stybr Variations for Contrabasson and the Taylor Firefly; and commissioned three consecutive concertini by Lofstrom: one for oboe, one for trumpet and in 2010 one for harp. 

 

Muspratt is an educator.  Each summer, he teaches a graduate conducting class at VanderCook College of Music.  He has taught at the Conductors' Studio at Illinois State UniversityConductors' Institute at the University of South Carolina, the Conductors' Guild National Workshops, the Association of Canadian Orchestra National Conference and the Westminster Choir College,
